All faculty are invited to participate in the Commencement Ceremony. As official witnesses to the conferring of degrees they play a vital role in the success of the Ceremony. Many faculty members have served as Commencement and College Marshals for 20 or more years. Occasionally a position opens up in these elite ranks. Please contact us if you are interested in becoming a marshal.
Those who are not marshals may participate as members of the academic procession. Stage seating limits the size of the academic procession, so please contact our office prior to May 2nd to secure your seat.
Beginning this year, confirmation of your commencement participation and ordering of apparel will occur via our online confirmation and regalia ordering form. You will be asked to set up your own account with a password.
In order to guarantee that you will have the appropriate colors in your hood, as well as a seat on stage, we must receive your order no later than May 2nd. Doctoral rental gowns are black Sussex gowns. (Custom apparel is not available on a rental basis.)
We encourage faculty members who want to participate in Commencement on a regular basis to join our Academic Apparel Purchase Program. Contact the Office of Ceremonies for details.
Regalia Delivery and Return |
If you requested rental regalia through the online form you may pick it up at the HUB, Room 110, from June 4 through June 7. If any part of your regalia does not arrive or fit properly, you may visit the Oak Hall booth in the lining up area June 14th for replacement items. Regalia may be returned to Room 110 on June 13 (9:00am - 6:00pm), June 14 (9:00am - 6:00pm), June 15 (12:00am - 6:00pm), or June 16 (9:00am - 6:00pm).
Academic Apparel Purchase Program |
As a way of thanking faculty members who regularly participate in the ceremony, we are proud to offer our Academic Apparel Purchase Program through our regalia provider, Oak Hall. This program allows tenured faculty and senior lecturers with multi-year contracts to obtain a custom made regalia from their alma maters as long as they agree to participate in the Commencement Ceremony for 7 (not necessarily consecutive) years. We are very excited about this program and hope you will be as well. If you are not currently interested in this program but would like to participate, we can still provide you with high quality rental attire. If you are interested in participating please contact us at commence@u.washington.edu.

Individual Instructions

Faculty Parking and Guest Tickets
Parking Permits will be required. You may use your UW issued parking permit, however, we do request that you not park in any of the E lots, as they have already been designated for other purposes. If you would like a parking pass for the C12 lot, please contact our office.
When confirming your participation with the Commencement Office you may request complimentary tickets for your guests. Tickets will be mailed to your office.
