This
is the time of year that the University of Washington honors
some of its best and brightest. Awards are given to honor outstanding
teachers, staff, mentors and those engaged in public service. There are also awards for
students, alumni and friends of the University who have distinguished
themselves.
You
are invited to celebrate the achievements of these special
people
at a ceremony in Meany Hall, June 9, 3:00 - 5:00 p.m., followed
by a
reception in the Meany Foyer.

Distinguished
Teaching Awards are given to University faculty
who show a mastery of their subject matter, intellectual
rigor and a passion for teaching.
|

|
Distinguished Staff Awards are given to staff who
have made outstanding contributions to the mission
of their unit or the University. They respond
creatively to challenges, maintain the highest
standards in their work, establish productive
working relationships, and promote a respectful
and supportive workplace.

|
|
| Excellence
in Teaching Awards are given to graduate teaching assistants
who demonstrate outstanding skills in the classroom. |
|
 |
|
|
| The
Marsha L. Landolt Distinguished Graduate Mentor Award recognizes faculty
members who have made outstanding contributions to the
education and guidance of graduate students. |
|
 |
|
|
| The
S. Sterling Munro Public Service Teaching Award is presented
to a faculty member demonstrating exemplary leadership
in service internships and community-partnership projects.
Munro was an aide on the staff of the late U.S. Sen. Henry
M. Jackson and was also an administrator of the Bonneville
Power Administration. |

| The
Outstanding Public Service Award is presented to a faculty
or staff member to honor the recipient's extensive local,
national and international public service. |
|

|
|
| The
Distinguished Contributions to Lifelong Learning Award
recognizes full-time faculty who have done significant work to advance continuing education programs. |
|
 |
|
|
| The
Alumna Summa Laude Dignata is given not for recent work,
but for a lifetime record of achievement. It is the highest
honor the University can bestow on a graduate. |
|
 |
|
|
| The
Alumni Association Distinguished Service Award is given
to an individual or individuals who make outstanding efforts
on behalf of the Alumni Association. |
|
 |
|
|
| The President's Medal has traditionally been given to the top senior in the graduating class. Candidates are judged on overall academic record, including grades. This year, for the first time, two awards are being presented. One medal goes to a student who has completed three-fourths of his or her degree requirements at the University. The other goes to a student who has entered the University with at least 60 transfer credits froma Washington community college. |

| The Clowes award honors a faculty or staff member who transforms undergraduate learning by creating or sustaining learning communities among students. It is named for the late James Clowes, associate director of the Comparative History of Ideas Program. |
|
 |
|
| The
Brotman Awards are made possible by donations from Jeffrey
and Susan Brotman. Jeffrey Brotman is a UW law school graduate
and a regent. Susan Brotman is on the UW Foundation Board
of Directors. The Brotman Award for Instructional
Excellence recognizes collaboration within and among departments,
programs
and groups that improves the quality of undergraduate education. |
